ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL IMPACT

At Grandvalira Resorts, we understand that respect for the natural environment is a shared responsibility.

Environmental policy at Grandvalira Resorts

These are some of the actions carried out at the Grandvalira Resorts stations that are part of the environmental policy.

Minimizing landscape impact and revegetation

Plans for revegetation and restoration of affected areas are being carried out, using native seeds and techniques such as hydroseeding to prevent erosion.

Efficiency in snow production

Use of technology with sonars in machines and GPS mapping to produce only the necessary snow, optimizing water and electricity and reducing CO₂ emissions.

Renewable energy

Part of the electricity used at the resorts comes from renewable energy, with some resorts certified with the LLUM VERDA seal by FEDA and the Government of Andorra. Self-consumption is also promoted through photovoltaic panels, turbines, and electric charging stations powered mainly by solar energy.

Consumption optimization

Monitoring of electricity, water, diesel, gas consumption, and temperatures to improve efficiency; regulation of lift speed according to the flow of visitors to minimize consumption.

Protection of biodiversity

Signage of lift cables to prevent bird accidents, conservation of the capercaillie's habitat, and collaboration with local agriculture to preserve traditional uses.

Water and land management

Control of ecological flow, maintenance of streams and wells to channel river and meltwater, treatment plants and grease separators to comply with environmental regulations.

Waste management

Selective sorting at each point of waste generation, specific collection points. Installation of solar self-compactors at food service areas.

Sustainable mobility and products

Optimization of the vehicle fleet, transportation, and staff accommodation; use of biodegradable or eco-sustainable products in operations. In addition, the use of sustainable mobility is promoted with the installation of chargers for electric vehicles in the station parking lots.

Our priority is to preserve the mountain and its biodiversity, implementing measures that minimize the impact as much as possible.

2030 Agenda

At Grandvalira Resorts we believe that strong collaboration with our stakeholders is key to making balanced progress in the economic, environmental, ethical, and social spheres. In this regard, we have aligned ourselves with the sustainable development goals of the 2030 Agenda and voluntarily promote various initiatives:

  • Equality plans and diversity and inclusion management programs.
  • Measures that facilitate work-life balance between personal, work, and family life.
  • Continuous training programs.
  • Strategies for responsible water management and wastewater treatment.
  • Optimization in the use of water resources.
  • Increased use of eco-designed products and materials with sustainable certifications.
  • Responsible consumption, prioritizing local suppliers, zero km products, and accredited materials.
  • Greater adoption of renewable energies and improvements in energy efficiency.
  • Calculation and monitoring of our carbon footprint.

Actions with social impact from the resorts

  • Grandvalira Social: The mission of the organization is to promote the sport of skiing and make it accessible to groups with special needs, organizing stays in the ski area for children and young people. The goals are to promote adapted sports activities, encourage leisure through nature, and foster social integration. It also collaborates with organizations like Unicef Andorra to support social projects.

  • Arrodoniment solidari: This is an initiative in which Pal Arinsal and the sectors of Soldeu – El Tarter de Grandvalira, along with other Andorran companies, participate. Customers who pay by bank card can round up the amount of their purchases at ticket offices or restaurants and donate the difference to social causes. The supported projects change periodically to benefit different initiatives.
  • Bicicletas sin Fronteras: Pal Arinsal collaborates with Bicicletas sin Fronteras in collecting donations for this association, which develops projects in Senegal by providing students from rural areas with bicycles to reduce the distance they walk to school, thus improving access to education and academic performance.

  • Muntanyes netes: From all Grandvalira Resorts stations, the “Clean Mountains” initiative is promoted, a collective action framed within Mountain Day. During this event, our teams go over the ski slopes to collect waste and reduce the environmental impact of our activity. We also invite volunteers to join, fostering environmental awareness and the shared commitment to keep the mountain in the best condition for everyone.
