Vallnord in Andorra

Pal Arinsal and Ordino Arcalís

History of Vallnord in Andorra

For many years, Vallnord was much more than a ski brand in Andorra. It represented the union of two resorts beloved by skiers: Pal Arinsal and Ordino Arcalís, located in the northern valleys of the country. Although each had its own character, together they offered a very complete mountain experience.

Under the name Vallnord, two different ways of experiencing the snow coexisted. On one hand, Pal Arinsal, a resort that was friendly, accessible, and highly valued by families and those taking their first steps in skiing. On the other hand, Ordino Arcalís, a wilder, more alpine area, known for its high mountain landscapes and the exceptional quality of its snow.

This combination made Vallnord one of the great snow domains of Andorra and helped establish the country as one of the leading destinations for enjoying winter in the Pyrenees.

The origin of Vallnord

The Vallnord brand was born in the 2004-2005 season with a clear idea: to join forces and present a more complete and visible skiing offer on the international stage. Thanks to this union, skiers could access the three sectors of the resort —Pal, Arinsal, and Arcalís— with a single ski pass, which together offered nearly 90 kilometers of slopes.

Despite sharing the same brand, each sector always retained its own identity. Pal Arinsal continued to stand out for its welcoming and family-friendly atmosphere, ideal for learning and enjoying skiing without complications. Meanwhile, Ordino Arcalís established itself as a highly valued destination for lovers of the most authentic mountain experience, especially for freeride enthusiasts, thanks to its snow and natural terrain.

For more than a decade, Vallnord was a key player in the tourism development of northern Andorra, helping to raise the profile of these resorts on the international skiing scene.

A new chapter in Andorra's snow

Over time, the snow sector in Andorra evolved, and Vallnord also began a new chapter.

In 2019, Ordino Arcalís became part of Grandvalira Resorts, starting a phase focused on further enhancing its high mountain character and its prestige as one of the best freeride destinations in the Pyrenees.

Years later, in 2023, Pal Arinsal also joined Grandvalira Resorts. This consolidated a joint strategy aimed at strengthening the international profile of Andorra's ski resorts and developing an active mountain offering throughout the year.

Today, within Grandvalira Resorts, both Ordino Arcalís and Pal Arinsal continue to evolve without losing their essence. Ordino Arcalís remains synonymous with spectacular landscapes and high-quality snow, while Pal Arinsal stands out as a close, dynamic, and very family-friendly resort in winter, as well as becoming an international benchmark in summer thanks to its mountain bike competitions.
